Sarah + Sirvtee | Maternity Session | Costa Mesa, CA

A few months ago Sarah and Sirvtee invited me to their Domo themed Baby Shower and we talked about getting together to do some maternity photos to show off her baby bump. Since then, I found out that they had moved just 5 minutes from my house and we’ve hung out quite a bit. Sarah and Sirvtee are so sweet and down to earth (even when they have arguments). I love them both to bits and I can’t wait to meet baby Phoenix. For our shoot we decided to hit  The Lab in Costa Mesa. It was just the right place for a fun loving couple like Sarah and Sirvtee. Check out their photos (click more for whole post of photos!)

Music | BOOM BOOM SATELLITES | Los Angeles, California

BOOM BOOM SATELLITES

About a month ago I got a portrait assignment from mxdwn.com and was sent off to West LA to check out a band from Japan called Boom Boom Satellites. They were doing a signing at GR2 which is one of my fave stores on Sawtelle. I’d listened to their music a little before I went to the shoot and was quite impressed by the electro rock fusion music they played. Masa and Michi introduced themselves to me and we did a quick shoot outside the store. It was a drizzly day and it was getting dark quick. I’d been on a shoot the day before and my strobe cables seemed to have gone missing so I was just left with a reflector and speedlite. I had one of their fans help me out and cover me with my reflector as I stood in the rain and shot Michi and Masa. The photos are now featured on mxdwn.com alongside an interview with the band – check it out.

Here are a few of my fave images from the shoot.

Inspiration | LA/OC Meetup with Fashion Photographer – Zhang Jingna

[Fashion/Forward] This week I was fortunate to meet one of my favorite fashion photographers, Zhang Jingna, at a meet and greet dinner. At the age of 22, she is already an international fashion photographer with clients like Sony, Montblanc, Ponds, Random House and has been published in big fashion mags like Elle and Harpers Bazaar. Jingna’s photo work is absolutely beautiful and amazing and inspired by Japanese anime art and culture. She just moved to LA from Singapore and I hope I can attend more of these meetups with her and the group. It was great to meet other awesome fellow photographers and makeup artists who are also inspired by her and creating beautiful images. That’s the direction I want to go and this has definitely given me a motivational push forward. I have all these ideas on a notepad and in my head – time to get them set up and snapped!

I didn’t bring out my camera too much during our dinner but we took a group photo at the end.. hopefully I can get some photos from Michael to put up 🙂

Keith + Crystal’s Wedding | Hacienda Heights, California

Keith and Crystals big day started at 3am. Claire (my awesome  second shooter) and I got to Keith’s grandma’s house where he was getting ready at 7am and they were already taking shots of Rock Star! The morning started with misty rain and I started getting worried about the weather, but as soon as we got to the church the ground was dry and it wasn’t raining at all! What a relief, it looks like God was definitely on their side for their special day. Crystal was just getting ready as we got to the church and we took some time to shoot her dress, jewelry, and shoes. She had the most gorgeous Badgley Mischka heels – they had little frilly flower like detail in the front. Crystal also had a beautiful wedding dress with really amazing lace detail.

The ceremony took place at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Hacienda Heights, California. The little church was really cute and had floor to ceiling windows on one side with a dome shaped roof, the light was beautiful coming into the church. It made for an amazing wedding. Keith and Crystal had a unity sand ceremony and their service was sweet and simple. After the ceremony, the reception was held at New Capital Seafood Restaurant in Rowland Heights, not too far from the church. Keith and Crystal had a traditional Chinese lunch banquet for their reception, and as with all Chinese dimsum restaurants, the place was bustling with chitter chatter and the smell of delicious Chinese food. The reception started with a traditional tea ceremony between the bride and groom and their family. They played wedding games and then Keith had a surprise for Crystal. Crystal was asked to sit on the stage while 33 guests came up to her with 3 roses each with well wishes. Once Crystal had 99 roses in her lap, Keith turned up with the 100th rose with a pink ribbon tied to it. He gave the most amazing speech to her and it had everyone in tears including the bride. For their guests, Keith and Crystal had a cupcake wedding cake made by their wedding planner, Alice Tam, and Karaoke. The party favors included little purple Chinese takeout boxes of chocolates. All in all, it was a fun day. Check it out for yourself and leave some comments for Keith and Crystal below!
